title: Settings — Reminders description: Workout reminders, quiet hours, and notification permissions.
Settings — Reminders
Reached from Settings → Reminders. Configures the local notifications that nudge you to train. Off by default — RhythmFit will never set up reminders without you asking.
Fields
Reminders enabled (master toggle)
Off by default. Turning this on triggers the iOS notification permission prompt the first time. Without permission, this toggle stays off and a banner explains.
Reminder list
Each row is a scheduled reminder. Up to 7 reminders can be scheduled simultaneously (one per day of week).
Each row shows: time, days-of-week chip, notification title preview. Tap to edit.
+ Add reminder
Opens the editor:
- Time — picker
- Days — multi-select (Mon–Sun)
- Workout to suggest — picker from your library (optional). If set, the notification body says "Tap to start: [workout name]" and tapping deep-links into Execute.
- Title — short customizable text. Default: "Time to train"
- Repeat — once / weekly / weekdays-only / weekends-only.
Quiet hours
Sliders for "Do not remind between [X] and [Y]". If a scheduled reminder falls inside the quiet hours, it's silently skipped (not deferred). Default: 10pm–7am.
Streak-save reminder
Toggle. When on, if you haven't trained today and it's past 9pm local time, a single reminder fires at 9pm: "Quick session before bed? Your streak's still alive." Off by default — we don't push this aggressively.
Adaptive reminders (experimental)
Toggle. When on, RhythmFit infers your typical workout time over 2–3 weeks and reminds at that time even if you haven't scheduled explicitly. Uses on-device pattern matching; nothing sent to servers. Default off.
How notifications behave
When a reminder fires:
- Lock screen banner + a single haptic tap.
- Tapping opens RhythmFit. If a specific workout was attached to the reminder, that workout's Execute screen opens directly.
- The reminder respects iOS Focus modes — during a configured Focus (Sleep, Do Not Disturb, Work), RhythmFit's notifications are suppressed per your iOS settings.
Permission edge cases
- You enabled reminders, then denied notifications in iOS Settings. The Reminders screen shows a banner: "Notifications are off in iOS Settings. Open Settings →" with a button.
- First reminder ever, permission denied at the prompt. The master toggle stays off; the screen explains why and offers a button to retry.
- You enabled briefly, then went to Airplane mode. Local notifications work without network; reminders still fire on time.
Streaks and reminders
The streak-save reminder is separate from regular reminders. Even with all scheduled reminders off, you can leave streak-save on if you want the safety net.
A streak doesn't break the moment you miss a reminder — it breaks at midnight local time if no session was logged that day.
Watch reminders
We don't currently fire reminders directly on Apple Watch. Watch notifications follow iOS's standard "Mirror notifications" — if your watch is set to mirror iPhone notifications, you'll see RhythmFit reminders on the wrist.
Why this is more conservative than competitors
Some fitness apps fire 3+ notifications per day. We deliberately designed for minimum nagging:
- One reminder per day max (unless you schedule multiple).
- Quiet hours are loose by default.
- No "you haven't trained in 5 days" nag escalation.
- No streak-guilt notifications past 9pm by default.
If you want more, configure more. If you want less, the defaults are already minimal.
